Thank You For Persevering

October 01, 2020
By Donald M. Larson, PhD

I want to thank each of you who have hung in there with us. This year has been a difficult year for all of us, but we have kept our focus on our mission to educate our children in a Christ-centered environment. The challenges we have faced have seemed overwhelming at times, but when we turn to the LORD, we are able to overcome the trials and tribulations.

As I read about the educational disasters happening around the country, I am thankful that our students are able to interact directly with their teachers and with other students. One student in New York City stated, “I actually need my teachers, who know me and understand me, to help me, and I don’t have that. I just keep thinking, ‘Oh, my God, I might not pass.’ I’m just really scared for the future.” Some districts have over 50% of their students not signing in for remote classes. Learning losses from the closures in the spring are estimated to be 30% in language arts and 50% in math. Even hybrid schedules where students attend class for 2 days a week and are online the other days will be covering significantly less than regular schedules.

We will be moving ahead with learning in our classrooms and will keep our students on a track similar to what they would learn in a traditional school year. Seeing our students face-to-face is a part of what makes a career in education worth having, and we are so grateful to be with your children at school! Thank you again for your patience, partnership, and commitment to your students and to Grace Christian School.

Amen to Rhonda's comments! Being married to a GCS teacher, I see first-hand the deep level of commitment motivated out of love and a sense of God's calling by our GCS staff. Thank you all for your dedication to our precious children!
